Hmm...

If you've got a scope, you can cheat and look at the waveform...

Have you tried raising the collector and emitter resistors?  the low value emitter resistor will cause quite a bit of current to flow...

One combo I've used with success is 22k collector, 1k emitter.... with a 10:1 bias network, you should find near linear results at 9VDC Vcc.

I'll think about this one over the course of the day...  Sorry I don't have a more conclusive suggestion.  Anyone else?

"Whistling" makes me think it's either capacitive coupling of output back to input, or you've inadvertently made a phase shift oscillator.  Physically separating the input and output leads, and generally putting more space between components, ought to help if it's the former.  If it's the latter, more space will not help but bypassing/decoupling will.  Try a big huge cap along with a 0.1uF ceramic from V+ to GND.  If that helps a little but not completely, add a series resistor plus a big cap to ground between V+ and the top of each collector resistor.

That's a very beautiful layout, I admire the symettry. I haven't messed with this circuit since I first breadboarded it, maybe I'll find time to get back to it soon!

Here's my PCB layout and PnP:

Here's a super simple vero:

No perf layout?? I've recently moved away from creating perf layouts on DIYLC. I've started creating PCB layouts instead, that way you can colour code the +ve, ground and vref traces etc. The traces can be thicker too, compared to perf layouts. I'm still building onto perf from the PCB layouts I create, I'm just finding the PCB layouts easier to create and easier to translate onto perf.

How do you like it, Rick?

As usual, you've outdone yourself on the perf work.

It's not built into the enclosure yet, just waiting for the graphic to set. TBH, it's not as if I need another dirt box, but I have some down time while I wait for parts for my next few builds, so I figured I'd build it. I breadboarded it again at the weekend and really liked it (still!), plus I have a suitable spare enclosure from an effect I recently gutted (Pentadriver, sounded great but I just couldn't live with the microphonic plink of those particular tubes every time I stomped the 3PDT, so it had to go). Anyway, it'll be finished at the weekend, so I'll get around to posting some soundclips.

Very nice work!

This seems very reminiscent of the Muff Fuzz/Double Muff. Weren't they 2 LPB's? Has anyone compared the two? I'm interested in building/buying one soon.
